By: The Children of Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

On September 6, 2017, Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, took a direct hit from what would soon be known as the historic Category 5 Hurricane Irma. A flyover newscaster reported that “Everyone on Virgin Gorda is dead!” Everyone survived despite that prediction, yet nearly every islander lost everything they possessed.

Hard Cover 8X10 Format

140 pages with full color portraits and graphics

Months after Irma, adults still spoke nervously as they recalled that painful day. Children remained silent, reluctant to share their feelings and fright.
As the first anniversary of Hurricane Irma approached, they were less hesitant.

Their recorded words came rapidly, running from one sequence of events to another without taking a breath as they relived their nightmares. The sad songs of their hearts are unchanged and unedited. Their sweet souls were tested and none failed. Witness their trials, feel their fear in this book written by forty-four children ages 4-17. Their faith is humbling and you will weep and cheer for these courageous children who knew the Lord would never abandon them.

God, please make the storm ease up.
I live in The Valley. I am eight-years old and my birthday is October 14th. My father’s name is Smiley and he was a soldier. I was by my father when the hurricane come and his roof had come off and I had to hide in the closet then the closet have come down then I have to go to another closet then when I could I have to go by my uncle and his roof was gone and then I had to go by somebody, it was down downstairs and I didn’t have to go in another closet!

Bless us, guide us…make us see another day in Jesus name.
I was in my house in the kitchen in Virgin Gorda watching the coconut trees coming towards us. They didn’t come to us, but the roof had cracked and the rain was falling in! Then the first thing that came up everything was the kitchen flew down from the top floor then my roof flew away and my dad, my parent’s room flew away, too, and we went in the bathroom! Then I was underneath my mom because she didn’t want me to get hurt! Then we went downstairs. I was crying and praying when I ran downstairs! When everything started blowing away I was sad!
